Golden Square Hosts A CG Party for Euro RSCG
Golden Square continues its collaboration with Euros on their cute CGI Mrs Rabbit Airwick campaign with a new spot that brings all the lovable furry creatures together into one commercial. Whos There?, which was storyboarded, directed, produced and post-produced entirely by Golden Square, sees the team using the campaigns longevity as a learning curve to help evolve the design with more detailed lighting and a more efficient pipeline.
The ad sees Mrs Rabbits domestic bliss interrupted by the unexpected arrival of her friends the cute Mrs Hamster, Mrs Elephant, and the smelly skunk kids.
Whos There? proved more challenging than previous ones due to the introduction of a new exterior environment which necessitated a variety of different lighting styles.
Golden Square also took the opportunity to animate more secondary characters, creating a higher and more complex level of interaction, adding to the family atmosphere, making the spot feel more vibrant and full of life.
Golden Squares 3D director, Sean Elliott, said: Because so many of the assets were pre-existing, we could invest time on improving the lighting, moving it on from being flat and cartoony. Weve also learnt a lot from the previous ads which meant we could improve our pipeline, making it easier to transfer animation data from animators to lighting TDs [technical directors]. In fact, we wrote a new tool to help us swap elements around. We used Render Man for the fur because we found we could render up to a million hairs in five minutes this way; whereas Mental Ray needs between 15 and 20 minutes to render up to 400,000 hairs.
